Therefore, he is promoting the principles of natural forest silviculture in the direction of close to nature forestry in North Macedonia as well as multipurpose and sustainable forest management. Thus, his endeavors are in line with revitalization of degraded forests, promoting mixed forest stands, conservation of old growth forests as well as promoting high nature value forests.

In the past sixth months several activities we performed, and unfortunately the new situation with COVID-19 has postpone some of already planned activities:

  • We worked on the promotion of Pro Silva as an organization, idea and principles of close-to-nature forestry in Republic of North Macedonia through organizing meetings with foresters with idea for creating larger group.
  • Identification of forests with high natural values in North Macedonia was performed.
  • A Workshop on “Measures for conservation of forests and forest genetic resources” was organized on 10th of March 2020.
  • Certain principles of Pro Silva for close-to-nature forestry were applied in the activities realized in the Nature Conservation Programme in North Macedonia, which support establishing of protected areas in Bregalnica Region, conservation and promotion of old-grow trees, conservation of natural values, etc.

On above mentioned activities, as well as at other formal and informal meetings in North Macedonia, we intensively promoting a new approach to forestry practices that will reduce the application of clear cutting and other intensive practices in North Macedonia and expand the application of close-to-nature silviculture, as a path to achieving close-to-nature forestry in North Macedonia.

The Pro Silva interested group has not yet been established in North Macedonia. The ideas, aims and principles for close-to-nature forestry are discussed with forester. There is an interest of foresters for establishing Pro Silva group in North Macedonia, but it is in initial phase for establishing of organisation.
