Pro Silva Strategy 2030+

As Pro Silva step by step was involved in European forest politics, has growing contact with different organizations and lobby groups in forestry and beyond, and there is growing need for internal consolidation and internal and external growth and development, the board decided to develop a Strategy Paper.

Starting with a joint meeting of the board in Brussels in January 2024, the board members collected first ideas in a two day workshop. This was followed by a questionnaire to the members, several internal online meetings and direct interviews with the members representatives (presidents, administrators).

Finally, the draft strategy was presented at the annual meeting in Sardinia in May 2025 and approved by the general assembly. After final edits the layout was made. Now translations to members native languages are under development.

The strategy will provide guidelines for the board of Pro Silva on international level as well as support for the member organizations. A strategy must be a living part of following activities and will result in an action plan to work on in the upcoming years.

We are proud to finish this strategy, which has already given us acknowledgement from potential donors and other supporters. The strategy paper will be a living document for further development.

Vision

Our greatest hope for the future is that all forests are diverse and structurally rich ecosystems that provide ecosystem services, produce high-quality timber (taking into account site conditions) and protect biodiversity for the benefit and joy of our children, grandchildren and all living beings.

By 2050, close-to-nature forestry according to Pro Silva principles is recognised as a successful economic, social and environmental approach to forest management and is accepted as the mainstream approach to forestry.

Mission

Our mission is to promote close-to-nature forestry according to Pro Silva principles as a successful economic, environmental and social approach to forestry and to share our practical knowledge with all those interested in forestry and with the general audience.

We pursue our mission by:

  • Advocating and raising awareness of close-tonature forestry according to Pro Silva principles among policy makers, forestry stakeholders and the general public
  • Strengthening the Pro Silva network
  • Providing practical information about close-to-nature forestry in different socio-bio-geographical conditions.
