We’re hiring at Pro Silva! - Pro Silva is looking for an Advocacy and Communication Officer to help promote close-to-nature forestry (CTNF)
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, madame Jessika Roswall, EU Commissioner for the Environment met with foresters from the European organization Pro Silva, who have been applying the principles of close-to-nature forest management for several decades.
The goal of the meeting was to explain how close-to-nature forestry seeks a balance between the production of high-quality timber and a higher degree of ecosystem complexity, thereby contributing to the protection of biodiversity. The application of Pro Silva principles in forest management has been shown to contribute to climate change mitigation and also saves costs for forest owners.
The discussion with the Commissioner also focused on the application of close-to-nature- forest management in NATURA 2000 sites and the need to amend existing management regulations. The meeting took place in the Allerheiligen Forest District (Germany, Rheinland-Pfalz), which is managed by the Rheinland-Palatinate State Forest Enterprise. The federal state was represented during the field trip by the Minister for Rural Affairs, Agriculture and Regional Identity Rheinland-Pfalz madame Marion Gentges.
A meaningful step for close-to-nature forestry : showing that this is not just a concept, but a demonstrated approach already implemented by many foresters across Europe.
