Pro Silva Europe participated in the ad-hoc working group on Natura 2000 and Forests
Pro Silva Vice President, Eckart Senitza and Administrator, Lucie Vítková participated in 6th meeting of the ad-hoc working group on Natura 2000 and Forests that took place on 7th December 2016 in Brussels.
Participants from European Commission, DG Environment, DG Agriculture, European Forest Institute as well as those representing state and private forest owners across Europe attended the meeting. Representatives from Ministries and organisations such as Bird Life Initiative also attended the meeting amongst others.
The application of integrative forest management, encouraging the enhancement of forest biodiversity and resilience towards the effects of climate change on Natura 2000 sites, were the main topics for discussion.
It was stressed by Maria Gafo Gomez-Zamalloa and François Kremer, the Chairmen of the meeting, that only with effective collaboration and communication between stakeholders can the current delivery of Natura 2000 measures be improved. This is of vital importance if our forests are to provide sustainable benefits to society.
Pro Silva Principles are well in line with Natura 2000 targets and measures and will provide solutions to ensure that sustainable forest management will enhance forest biodiversity on tree, stand, forest and landscape levels.
